Methotrexate

Descriptions of Methotrexate

Methotrexate: A drug used to treat some types of cancers, including breast, head and neck, lung, blood, and bone, and other disorders. It belongs to the family of drugs called antimetabolites. Also called amethopterin.

Methotrexate: An antimetabolite with antineoplastic and immuno-modulating properties. Methotrexate inhibits the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase, resulting in inhibition of purine nucleotide and thymidylate synthesis and, subsequently, inhibition of DNA and RNA syntheses.
