The list of diagnostic tests mentioned in various sources as used in the diagnosis of Cracked skin includes:

  • Physical examination
    • Note characteristics of cracked skin
    • Note presence of other types of skin problems - e.g. pustules, crusting, vesicles, blisters, plaques - ca help determine diagnosis.
    • Note distribution of the areas of skin affected
  • Skin scraping and microscopic examination - if suspect fungal or scabies infection.
  • Skin patch testing - used to determine allergens in allergic contact dermatitis.
  • Radioallergosorbent testing (RAST) - may help in determining exacerbating allergens in atopic dermatitis (eczema).
  • Punch or shave skin biopsy - can help diagnose cause of cracking skin.
