- Is there a history of recurrent red throat? - e.g. red throat may be the presentation of serious and hidden diseases such as leukemia, HIV infection and diabetes.
- Past medical history? - e.g. erythema multiforme may be associated with herpes simplex type 1, systemic lupus erythematosus, Hodgkin's disease, myeloma and tuberculosis.
- Medications? - e.g. some medications are associated with erythema multiforme including barbiturates, penicillin, sulphonamides, phenothiazines and phenytoin; Stevens-Johnson syndrome may be associated with many drugs including sulfa drugs, allopurinol, phenytoin, cabamazepine, phenylbutazone and piroxicam.
