Peripheral neuropathy is a common complication of stomach stapling to treat obesity

Stomach stapling has been discovered to lead to complications caused by malnutrition. Malnutrition can cause nerve damage such as peripheral neuropathy. A study of patients who had undergone stomach stapling found that 16% of them had developed peripheral neuropathy. Patients need to be monitored closely after stomach stapling to ensure that they receive adequate nutrition. 100,000 people underwent surgery to treat obesity last year. On the positive side, surgery to treat obesity helped with cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes and obstructive sleep apnea problems.
