Resting is the worst advice that can be given to a person recovering from heart disease, particularly after a heart attack or heart surgery. Cardiac rehabilitation is designed to get people up and moving in a controlled environment in order to improve their prognosis and reduce the risk of further insult on the heart. Rehab starts in the hospital and involves graded exercise, education on diet and lifestyle, quitting smoking, and providing encouragement and support for a difficult time in these people's lives. These programs can be adopted prior to sustaining injury to the heart by contacting a cardiologist early if you suffer from any form of heart disease.
