Cancer development secrets discovered

Researchers have discovered why older people are more prone to cancers when older cells have a reduced ability to divide and multiply. A human gene which slows cell growth with aging is unable to protect the cells from cancerous explosions. The gene in fact prevented the DNA repair mechanism from acting and thus removed an important tool for stopping mutations and hence preventing cancers. Thus, old cells can develop sudden mutations because no DNA repair has occurred. This knowledge allows researchers to focus on devising a way to protect the DNA repair system in order to prevent cancer.
