A young mother battling breast cancer, diagnosed when she was 23 after finding a suspicious breast lump, is highlighting the need for regular self breast examination and check-ups. With 10% of women aged less than 30 dying from breast cancer it is imperative that all women be included in the breast cancer screening target population. The woman first suffered a hemorrhage during her third pregnancy, for which the treatment was to remove her uterus and during the procedure her ureter (tube connecting her kidney to her bladder) was cut. She required subsequent hormonal therapy that lead to an increased risk of her developing breast cancer. Her proposed treatment of the breast cancer is to undergo a double mastectomy, removal of both her breasts, followed by reconstructive surgery. This is after undergoing chemotherapy, medication that causes her fatigue and lethargy. She is still hoping for a complete remission and to get married to her sweetheart.
