Avian flu is a group of viruses found in chickens that is easily transmitted to humans and to other birds via feces, particularly in dense living conditions. It quickly decimates chicken populations while causing flu-like symptoms in humans, including cough, cold, high temperatures, sore throat and myalgia, that can lead to serious lung infection and death. Eating well prepared, cooked chicken does not transmit the virus and an anti-viral can be used to reduce the severity of the acquired disease.
