Autoimmune hearing loss

Loss of hearing can be due to ototoxic drugs, brain cancers, disease of the nerves, autoimmune conditions, Lyme disease, and other infectious diseases, or the cause can be unknown (idiopathic). If the hearing loss is due to an autoimmune condition, such as idiopathic progressive bilateral sensorineural hearing loss, several methods of treatment can be offered from medications to suppress the body’s immune system, i.e steroids, and cochlear implants to return hearing.
