Superficial part of posterior (plantar flexor) compartment of leg: [TA] portion of posterior (plantar flexor) compartment of leg including the gastrocnemius and soleus (muscles); it is separated from the deep part by the transverse intermuscular septum of leg. SYN: pars superficialis compartimenti cruris posterioris [TA], pars tricipitalis compartimenti cruris posterioris*.
