Description of Sickle cell

Sickle cell: an abnormal, crescentic erythrocyte that is characteristic of sickle cell anemia, resulting from an inherited abnormality of hemoglobin (hemoglobin S) causing decreased solubility at low oxygen tension. SYN: crescent cell, drepanocyte, meniscocyte.
