Rhombencephalic isthmus: (1) a constriction in the embryonic neural tube delineating the mesencephalon from the rhombencephalon; (2) the anterior portion of the rhombencephalon connecting with the mesencephalon. SYN: isthmus (2) [TA], isthmus of His, isthmus rhombencephali.
