Article Excerpts about Menstruation

A menstrual cycle is how a woman's body prepares for the possibility of pregnancy each month. A menstrual period is just one part of this cycle. A cycle's length is determined by counting from the first day of one period to the first day of the next period. The average menstrual cycle is 28 days long. However, a cycle can range anywhere from 23 days to 35 days. (Source: excerpt from Menstruation: NWHIC)

Definitions of Menstruation:

The monthly discharge of blood from the uterus of nonpregnant women from puberty to menopause; "the women were sickly and subject to excessive menstruation"; "a woman does not take the gout unless her menses be stopped"--Hippocrates; "the semen begins to appear in males and to be emitted at the same time of life that the catamenia begin to flow in females"--Aristotle - (Source - WordNet 2.1)
