Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Criteria*: Excerpt from A Pocket Manual of Differential Diagnosis

Facial erythema (butterfly rash)
Discoid lupus erythematosus
Photosensitivity
Nonerosive arthritis
Oral or nasopharyngeal ulceration
Serositis (pleuritis or pericarditis, or both)
Psychosis or seizures, or both
Proteinuria >0.5 g/day or cellular casts in urine (red cell, hemoglobin, granular, tubular, mixed)
Hematologic disorder
Hemolytic anemia, leukopenia (WBC <4,000/mm³), lymphopenia (<1,500/mm³), or    thrombocytopenia (<100,000/mm³)
Antinuclear antibody
Immunologic disorder: positive lupus erythematosus cell preparation, anti-DNA antibodies, anti-Sm antibodies, or chronic false-positive serologic test for syphilis

*Diagnosis of systemic lupus can be made if of the 11 criteria are present, serially or simultaneously, during any interval of observation.
