Hyperactive-impulsive ADHD: A condition in which a person (usually a child) has an unusually high activity level and a short attention span. • Current data suggests that carefully titrated stimulant medication (Methylphenidate, Dextroamphetamine) provides the best first-line therapy for ADHD. Behavioural therapy is useful in conjunction with medication to address issues such as social skills and academic performance. Treatments include:

• Stress reduction techniques

Prognosis for Hyperactive-impulsive ADHD

Prognosis for Hyperactive-impulsive ADHD: The proportion of children meeting the diagnostic criteria for ADHD dropped by about 50% over three years after the diagnosis. This occurred regardless of the treatments used. It persists into adulthood in about 30-50% of cases. Those affected are likely to develop coping mechanisms as they mature thus compensating for their previous ADHD. Children diagnosed with ADHD have significant difficulties in adolescence, regardless of treatment.
