• HIV (2.6%),

• influenza and pneumonia (1.1%), and

For ages 55-64 years, the top ten causes of death in USA 1999 were:

• cancer (37.3%),
• heart disease (26.9%),
• chronic lower respiratory diseases (4.7%),
• cerebrovascular diseases including stroke (4.0%),
• diabetes (3.8%),
• accidents (3.0%),
• chronic liver disease and cirrhosis (2.4%),
• suicide (1.2%),
• kidney diseases (1.2%),
• septicemia (1.1%), and
• other causes (14.4%) [CDC NVSR 2001].
