Glossary for Behcet's Disease

  • Aneurysm: Dangerous ballooning of a weakened area of an artery
  • Arthritis: General name for any type of joint inflammation, but often means age-related osteoarthritis.
  • Autoimmune diseases: A group of disorders in which the primary cause is the an inflammatory reaction caused by the body's own immune system attacking tissues
  • Balance symptoms: Problems with balance or vertigo
  • Blindness: The inability to see out of the eyes
  • Blood clots: Multiple coagulums that are located in the blood stream due to the aggregation of blood factors
  • Blood vessel conditions: Conditions that affect the blood vessels
  • Boomerang dysplasia: A rare lethal disorder characterized by bone abnormalities (lack of bone ossification and missing bones) and a characteristic face.
  • Bowel inflammation: A condition which is characterized by inflammation of the bowel portion of the gastrointestinal tract
  • Canker sores: Ulcers of the mouth or nearby areas
  • Chancroid: An sexually transmitted disease caused by the Haemophilus ducreyi bacteria and is characterized by painful genital ulceration.
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Severe chronic fatigue disorder often following infection.
  • Colitis: Inflammation of the colon
  • Crohn's disease: Crohn's disease causes inflammation of the digestive system. It is one of a group of diseases called inflammatory bowel disease. The disease can affect any area from the mouth to the anus. It often affects the lower part of the small intestine called the ileum.

  • Peptic Ulcer: Ulcer on the lining of the stomach or duodenum
  • Proctitis: A chronic inflammatory disease of the rectum which causes bloody diarrhea.
  • Pulmonary embolism: Blocked lung blood vessel often from a blood clot.
  • Redness: Reddening of the skin.
  • Reiter’s syndrome: A form of reactive arthritis characterized by arthritis, urethritis, conjunctivitis and skin lesions.
  • Rheumatic conditions: Any condition that affects ones joints
  • Skin conditions: Any condition that affects the skin
  • Skin lesion: Lesions appearing on the skin.
  • Speech symptoms: Problems with speech or voice.
  • Spine symptoms: Symptoms affecting the spine
  • Stroke: Serious brain event from bleeding or blood clots.
  • Superficial thrombophlebitis: Inflammation of a vein wall
  • Ulcerative colitis: Ulcerative colitis (Colitis ulcerosa, UC) is a form of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Ulcerative colitis is a form of colitis, a disease of the intestine, specifically the large intestine or colon, that includes characteristic ulcers, or open sores, in the colon.
  • Uveitis: A condition which is characterised by the inflammation of the uvea of the eye
  • Vasculitis: Inflammation of a blood or lymph vessel
  • Vulvar cancer: Cancer (malignant) that develops in the tissue of the vulva.
  • Vulvar lesions: A condition which is characterized lesions which occur on the vulva
