A muscle condition which causes the range of motion of a joint to be limited. The condition can occur in numerous joints or in only a few and the degree of limitation of joint movement may also vary greatly - sometimes the range is limited so little that it is barely noticeable. Some types of arthrogryposis are inherited and some aren't. A person is born with the condition which is not a progressive disorder although it may also occur in joints that are not used for a long time - eg a broken limb in a cast.
